In this series of videos, you’ll be learning how to create four EPIC leads in Xfer Serum.
Video 1 - Introduction (1:10)
In this introduction video, Josh Isaacs explains some more in-depth information about the plugin and its place in the modern producer’s arsenal. Also, you’ll be able to hear a preview of the sounds you’ll be creating in the coming videos.
Video 2 - Serum Feature Overview (4:45)
In Part 2, Josh will do a complete review of the Serum plugin including its features, various views, and, most importantly, the aspects that make it so unique and useful. After watching this video, you’ll have in-depth knowledge on the options and features included in the oscillator view, FX view, Matrix view, and Global view. From here, all you need is to start building your sounds.
Video 3 - Creating an EPIC Pluck Lead (6:41)
In Part 3, Josh creates our first EPIC lead: a versatile pluck that is just as effective by itself as it is when creating chords and other textures. Watch this video to learn more about creating the sound from scratch as well as modulating different parameters using envelopes and LFOs to create unique and useful sounds.
Video 4 - Creating an EPIC Sustained Lead (4:19)
In Part 4, Josh creates our next lead: a hard and heavy sustained lead that is loud and gritty. This lead sounds great up in the normal frequencies but even sounds great as a texture when you bring it low, adding a growling element to your track. Josh creates a vibrato effect that will have this lead reminding you of sounds from the likes of Tchami and Malaa. This unique and off-kilter sound will surely find its place in your bag of tricks.
Video 5 - Creating an EPIC Gliding Saw Lead (5:49)
In Part 5, Josh creates our third lead: a creamy, adaptable saw lead that glides through your mix. This monophonic lead sounds especially great on top of heavy 808s or driving four-on-the-floor beats. For this lead, Josh creates a vibrato effect that increases as a note is held which is a great technique for you to have down.
Video 6 - Creating an EPIC Vocal-Sounding Lead (8:41)
In Part 6, Josh creates our final lead: an interesting adaptable pluck sound that can be used on its own or in building chords. This sound gains a vocal-esque character through the use of a vowel wavetable and modulation of the wavetable position. In this video, Josh also uses two of Serum’s warp modes to demonstrate their robust functionality.
Video 7 - In Conclusion… (0:13)
In Part 7, Josh reviews his goals for this series of videos and recaps the lessons taught. We hope that this series of videos has given you valuable knowledge that you can take moving forward and use to make your productions the best they’ve ever been.
